
Meet Mary
Mary is the compliance officer in Sheridan Insurances. She is a qualified financial advisor and is a member of the Institute of Bankers and the Insurance Institute. Mary is responsible for ensuring all regulatory and compliance obligations are adhered to, including adherence to Central Bank regulations, general compliance management, and risk resolution. Mary is also the Data Protection Officer within Sheridan Insurances. She works closely with all of the Sheridan Insurances team members and with across all departments including operations, marketing, customer support, IT, legal and human resources.
Mary’s role is about the finer details that make the company great. She is responsible for all the compliance aspects of Sheridan Insurances processes and documentation across the suite of seventeen insurance products. Mary’s favourite quote is “The only constant is change” from Heraclitus. Her passion for change and continuous improvement is evident in her efforts to improve processes using lean methodologies.
Mary is determined, diligent, and has always strived to succeed. She attended the Regional Technical College in Tralee where she studied computer programming. Mary was the treasurer of the Tralee RTC Student’s Union and a member of the college drama society. She did not stop there, after college she joined Bank of Ireland in retail banking. She successfully attained her QFA, Professional Diploma in Financial Services, a certificate in business banking, frontline Management, a post-graduate diploma in leading and managing people and a professional diploma in Financial Services. In the Bank of Ireland, Mary started as a cashier, moved into customer service, and again to bank lending. She progressed to branch manager in Dunshaughlin and Kells.
Mary has always been heavily involved with business operations and spent her last few years in the bank contact centre setting up and managing a business Advisor Support Team. A real team player she jumped right in to help with community initiatives such as the back-yard blitz in conjunction with Age Action.
Mary is married with two teenage children. She is a volunteer director on the Board of Clann Mor. A local charity based in Meath that provides community based residential and respite services to adults with intellectual disabilities. She loves to travel to places of cultural and historic interest, especially where she can enjoy a glass of good wine with some really excellent food. When not working on compliance Mary can be found baking, walking, dabbling in bridge, creative writing, or reading up on US politics.
We asked Mary what is one piece of advice that she would pass on or share with others? She quickly responded with the famous line “You only live once.” Mary is certainly making sure that each day is filled with potential.
