Business and Heritage Co-operating for Mutual Benefit
When Benny and Miriam Sheridan of Sheridan Insurances & Financial Services took a stand at Monalty Steam Thrashing in the Summer of 2007 they were very impressed with the committee and their voluntary work to perserve the local heritage.
The committee's work extends much further than just the Stream Thrashing event. They have bought a 12 acre site and build a two storey museum. The museum has a lovely light and airy exhibition space and a lift for disabled access. Their collection of artefacts consists of everything from farming equipment, coins, posters and signs to butter churns, tandem bicycles as well as many artefacts from the now defunct Monalty Fire Brigade and much more besides.
Sheridan Insurances & Financial Services also appreciate the past and their stand at Monalty Show consisted of a donkey and cart. They really believe in keeping links with the past as they push forward with their plans for the future. "Remembering our past helps keep us grounded", says Benny. "It was incredible how many people of all ages and walks of life were drawn to come over and have a closer look at our donkey, Jacko, at the show. Even in this technological age the personal touch and the humble donkey are to be valued and appreciated."
The Sheridans have moved into Kells in recent months and have also relocated their Navan premises to an old jewellers shop in Trimgate Street. In their new premises Sheridan's acquired a number of display stands for which they had no need and little space. The Monalty Museum however, kindly took them off their hands to use as display cases for their many interesting artefacts. Consequently we have a wonderful instance of a local business and voluntary group getting to know each other and co-operating to their mutual benefit.
